More on Marie Benedict–the author spent ten years as a litigator until she realized that her true calling was to unearth significant women from history whose contributions to society have not been fully recognized. Her first novel was The Other Einstein, which was, of course, about Albert Einstein’s wife. Who knew Albert Einstein even had a wife? The Only Woman in the Room is about Hedy Lamar, once called ‘the most beautiful woman in Hollywood’, who was an inventor as well as an actress. During WWII, Lamar developed frequency hopping, a technology that could have been usedful to the military had they not shelved the idea. Again, who knew a lovely actress could invent something useful!! Today, her technological discoveries are used in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS systems.
