Books For Fathers

Father’s Day is June 19, so it isn’t too early to consider a gift for your father or another man in your life! Choosing a book that a man would like is absolutely NOT being sexist. It is being considerate. (Of course, there are many books that both genders enjoy.) After noting in a few of the publications I recieve and asking other book bloggers, I’ve come up with a list of books you might want to consider, depending on the interest of the man receiving the gift.

For a man who likes:

funny stuff Jim Gaffigan’s Dad is Fat is not a new book but one that reflects hilariously on fatherhood.

war stories The little known story of the greatest rescue mission of WWII is entitled The Forgotten 500, is written by Gregory A. Freeman.

science fiction Hail Mary, by Andy Weir, is centered around an astronaut who wakes up from a coma just in time to save the world.

thrillers Peter Heller has written another gripping story called The Guide which is set in a fishing lodge in Colorado.

spy books An biography that reads like a novel, The Spy and The Traitor, by Ben MacIntyre, goes back to the beginnings of the Cold War and tells the story of a real double-agent.

‘feel good’ stories The Day the World Came to Town, by Jim DeFede, is an oral history of the way Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed over 5,000 airline passengers and flight crew members who set down in their town the evening of 9/11.

the scientific world Impact, by Greg Brennecka, humorously explains how meteorites have formed our planet and its culture.

music In The Violin Conspiracy, by Brendan Slocumb, a classical musician loses his heirloom violin and seeks to recover it as he prepares for the competition of his life.
