August Contest
Last month’s winner was Madeleine Kaye, who answered the trivia question almost as soon as I posted it. I learned a lesson from that!! This contest is a bit more involved AND I will take answers for an entire day, up until midnight of August 2. Then, I will take the names of all the people who answered correctly, put them in the proverbial hat, and choose the winner. The prize for this contest is a hardback copy of This Tender Land
Below are five quotes from five different books. Your challenge is to state the name of the book and its author.
GOOD LUCK
Hint: With a nod to children’s literature, these are all books that children read.
1. “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
2. “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.”
3. “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”
4. “Life, with its rules, its obligations, and its freedoms, is like a sonnet: You’re given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself.”
5. “All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”
1. I’m pretty sure this is from one of the Harry Potter books. I’m going to guess Sorcerer’s Stone, of course by JK Rowling
2. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
3. Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott
4. A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle (which I read for the first time in about 7th grade and was enchanted)
5. Peter Pan, by J M Barrie (just an educated guess)
If I win, you know what I think of that book, so pls pick a different contest winner and just let me know in private. BTW – this is an inspired contest! Excellent job 🙂
OK, I will skip you on this one. If you have any inspiration on how to get more participants in the contests, let me know. And don’t say to up the ante on the prizes!!
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling
2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
3. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
4. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
5. Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
Cindy, did I fail to mention that you won? YES. Congrats! Hope you enjoy your prize.
