I Just Read the Best Book!!
Before we go on to the 2025 ‘Book World’, there are books that I missed featuring on the blog that I obviously should have featured. I know this because I’ve had people tell me, “Oh, I just read the best book!” and then proceed to tell me all about it. I love it when people do this, and I want to share a few of these ‘lighter’ books with you.
Renee Rosen tells the story of Ruth Handler and her husband who co-founded the Mattel Toy Company. In 1956, Ruth had an inspiration. She wanted to create a new doll that would appeal to little girls and inspire them to be anything they wanted to be. If you read this book, you will discover every detail that goes into creating a product AND from a woman’s point of view. Did you play with Barbie? Did your daughters? The camper, the dreamhouse and Ken. Oh my!! And Barbie is still going strong. Who knew?
Not all readers thought this book was a ‘best book’, but the critics surely did. It was a Good Morning America Book Club pick, a Washington Post Top 10 Book of the Year and “A laugh-out-loud cultural comedy”, according to the LA Times. The story centers around a biracial writer who gets a chance to write the script for a new television comedy. Her trials and tribulations will entertain the reader and possibly strike a chord or two.
Funny Story is a romance novel, and it’s delightful according to the friend who told me about it. The plot involves two couples who split up and then end up with each other’s exes. Does that make sense? Well, it’s a funny story!! You really have to read it….. The New York Times praises its “Sparkling banter, thoughtfully rendered family trauma, and a charming community of side characters.” It’s a no-stress read that we might need right now!
