Ann Tyler
Ann Tyler has been writing books for 60 years. Her first one, If Morning Ever Comes, was published in 1964 when Tyler was only 22 years old. The first Ann Tyler book I remember is The Accidental Tourist. I hate to admit that I found the book difficult to get into, but my husband read it and liked it a lot! I read French Braid recently and plan to read her new book Three Days in June. How many Ann Tyler books have you read? What is your favorite?
Three Days in June is about a couple whose daughter is getting married. Sounds like a happy time, right? Not so happy if the parents are divorced and the daughter is hiding a big secret about her intended. The critics love this new book. The Washington Post calls it a ‘treat’ and the Minneapolis Star Tribune writes, “Three Days in June is like reading a hug.”

In an article published in the New York Times on February 10, 2025, Elisabeth Egan, the interviewer and author of the article, found out that Ann Tyler has no hobbies. She just loves to write. She lives in a retirement community, and every morning she gets up and takes a walk. Then she comes home, drinks coffee with cream and writes until lunchtime. She does not type her first draft. She writes it in longhand in black ink on unlined paper. Pretty impressive, isn’t it?
Tyler’s husband Taghi Modarressi was a psychiatrist and novelist. He died in 1997. They have two daughters, both of whom love to paint. Talent certainly seems to run in the family!
