Do You Agree with David Brooks?

I must say that I really like David Brooks. I watch him faithfully on the PBS Newshour. Today, I read his column in the New York Times and wanted to share it with my blog readers. Click on the below site:

What exactly is he saying? Does he always think things were better in the ‘good ole days’? Focusing in on Brooks’ disappointment in today’s lack of edgy literary novels, what older novels would you recommend we read again? We tend to call these “Classics”, don’t we? Are there any current novels that you would put in the category ‘Literary works that shook the world’? I would really like to hear from you on the topic.
