Amphibious Soul

Before I introduce you to the new book that Craig Foster wrote, I want to talk about a video he made. “My Octopus Teacher”, documentary film Oscar winner of 2021, is an incredible story that takes place in the depths of the ocean off the coast of South Africa. It is here that Foster meets an octopus one day while diving. He keeps company with the creature for almost a year and documents their relationship. This film is almost magical and somewhat spiritual, particularly to someone such as myself who feels a special connection to animals.

Amphibious Soul is a memoir from Foster which chronicles his dives and other adventures all over the world where he encounters creatures that transform his life. Experiencing nature benefits us physically as well as psychologically, but many people don’t have time for outings of this type outside their work and urban environment. Foster explains how we can and should connect with nature. The book includes an illustrated map of Foster’s journey and access to short films from each chapter. Jane Goodall is quoted as saying, “An important book that will transform how we think about being human….that will inspire hope.”
