Becky Recommends—-
My Saint Simons friend Becky, who publishes an Instagram Blog entitled beckyonbooks, has a few new recommendations. The following are three books and her comments on why she liked them:
The Maid, by Nita Prose A maid in a hotel discovers a body in a room she goes in to clean
Becky says: There is an interesting cast of character and suspects; the writing is sharp and clear; the setting is interesting; the protagonist is endearing.
Hell of a Book, by Jason Mott Three themes are woven together to tell part of a story of what it’s like to be Black in America.
Becky says: I live in Glynn County, Georgia where Ahmaud Arbery was killed while out on a run. What resonated with me so much was the fear, the fear of parents for their black sons, the fear of children for their black fathers, the fear of sisters for their black brothers, the fear of dying like Ahmaud.
The Stranger Bookshop, by Joanna O’Neill A young woman inherits a bookstore in England along with its ghosts who live there and their mysterious pasts.
Becky says: If you enjoy a book about bookshops, this is a cozy one. I loved all the British details and found a pleasing escape for a few hours.
