Book Clubs Beware
It’s about time for book clubs to choose books for the next year starting in September. Want to read books that are ‘hot off the press’ and really good? Of course you do, so take a look at the following books and read a few so you can suggest them to your group. I’ve picked some that I really want to read.
Infinte Country by Patricia Engel–If you liked American Dirt, read Infinite Country, which is about a family torn between Columbia and the United States. Well-written and powerful.
Half Life by Jillian Cantor–Have you heard of the ‘choose your ending’ books? This is one in which the author has chosen an ending that did NOT happen but could have. Find out about the real life of Marie Curie and then imagine your life if she had not become a scientist. It could have been a matter of life and death!!
The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams–Would it surprise you to know that MEN compliled the Oxford English Dictionary? This book won’t be released until April 6, but wait for it……
When the Stars Grow Dark by Paula McLain–Yes, the same Paula McLain who wrote The Paris Wife and Circling the Sun. Her new book, due out April 13, is a mystery set in Mendocino, a California town that is charming but very spooky in this new book.
The Agitators by Dorothy Wickenden–In the style of John Lewis, three women made ‘good trouble’ and brought about important changes in their own world and ours today. Read about Harriet Tubman and two other women activists. It will be a wonderful way to discuss women on whose shoulders we stand.
The Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan–A lighter book that takes a look at four women in London who enter a BBC- sponsored cooking competition.
