Favorite Fathers
BookBub, an on-line literary publication, asked its readers to submit their favorite literary dads. In the June15, 2022, edition, Alyssa Hollingsworth reported on a few of the chosen fathers. Your task, should you accept it, is to choose YOUR favorite from a few of the dads mentioned. If you vote, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $15.00 gift certificate to Indigo Books in Freshfield Village. Here are the candidates: (Warning–try not to vote based on the actor playing the role of the father in the movies)
Choice #1–Matthew Cuthbert from Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Choice #2–Arthur Weasley from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Choice #3–Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Choice #4–Ta-Nehisi Coates from Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
My contest entry: I’m rejecting the obvious choice of Atticus Finch and going with Arthur Weasley (BTW it’s Weasley with a W, not Veasley with a V). Maybe you should have added Don Corleone to the list; some would argue that his love of his children was his saving grace. I’m in full Godfather mode these days, having just binged “The Offer” — it was fascinating!
I agree that Atticus Finch stands out, but my vote goes for Matthew Cuthbert.
My Canadian side is showing… Matthew Cuthbert.
Atticus Finch. I can’t help it. His was the first name that popped into my mind before I even read who the candidates were.
Ta – Nehisi Coates – This book is essentially a letter to his son, teaching him an essential lesson on how to live as a black man during these times. Made me think about what the role of a father should be.
Ta-Nehisi Coates is my pick. The other choices are fictional, although wonderful characters, and not truly facing what Mr. Coates sees with his sons.
Atticus Finch – I feel I almost grew up with him
Matthew Cuthbert is my pick – hands down!!! I know he is a fictional but it is fun to dream ….
