Sue Monk Kidd has done it again

Sue Monk Kidd has a new book out entitled The Book of Longings. Is it as captivating as her others? The reviewer in the Post and Courier’s May 31st edition seems to think so. Below is a link to that review in case you missed it. And remember, this is an historical novel–fiction–not ‘real’. The book is, however, filled with truths–yours for the taking.

Does controversy surround Kidd’s notion of Jesus being married? According to an article in the Washington Post published on April 21, 2020, Kidd says, “I am deeply and reverentially aware that Jesus is a figure to whom millions of people are devoted. His impact on the history of Western civilization is incomparable.” Kidd herself has made a spiritual journey as a student of Baptist theology to a follower of Jesus from a feminine perspective. Her notion of Ana as being Jesus’ wife is possibly not as controversial as her depiction of Charleston as a virtual hellhole for thousands of slaves in the years preceding the Civil War, at least not to some Charlestonians who cringed at her unearthing of the Grimke sisters!!
