A Shout-Out To Hannah Reynolds
In the December 21, 2022, edition of BookBub, Hannah Reynolds writes that she read 82 books in 2022. Wow. That’s a lot of reading. She reports that she reads ALL the time–on the subway, when she wakes up in the morning, when she goes to sleep at night. Out of the 82 books she read, she lists her five favorites so I thought I would share the titles with blog readers.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin — Two childhood friends reunite to create a sensational game that gains fame around the world. How does their invention change them? (I want to read the book to find out.)
Cloud Cuckoo Land, by Anthony Doerr — The author of All the Light We Cannot See writes another novel with multiple characters and an ambitious thousand year time line. (Not MY favorite)
This Time Tomorrow, by Emma Straub — This time travel fiction is about a father and a daughter and written by the daughter of the late novelist Peter Straub.
The Verifiers, by Jane Pek — Reynolds describes this mystery about dating apps as being ‘fun.’
Sea of Tranquility, by Emily St. John Mandel — This book made the list for many book clubs this year. A New York Times reviewer cites it as the best Mandel book so far.
Interesting list. I’ve read four of these, only loved one. That was Tomorrow. X.3 I also liked. This Time Tomorrow very much. The Verifiers was unusual and I finished it feeling old and out of touch. I did not like Cloud Cuckoo land. In fact, I thought it was a little pretentious. I have not read Emily St John Mandel, but I will try her books one day. I love to read comments from other readers. Of course a book club discussion is even better. I’ve been known to change my opinion after listening to others.
