Meet Wylie Small

Wylie and her husbad purchased a home on Kiawah Island in 2020.

I recently met Wylie Small, a part time Kiawah resident who also happens to be an author! Her specialty is English history. Wylie sent me the following background information:

My love of English history developed when I began to work on my family’s genealogy, about fifteen years ago. Both of my parents had strong roots in England and Scotland, and it was fun to delve into family history. When I discovered I was related to some of England’s more notable persons (Plantagenet kings and queens!), I began to research them. Dan Jones’ book The Plantagenets fueled my interest in history, and I felt myself drawn into the minutiae of life in the 13th/14th/15th century. Coupled with several trips to England, I was sold. The protagonist of my first book, Thomas Gray, is my 21st great grandfather. A Knight’s Duty is based on his life. My next book, The Failed Apprentice, is set in the Tudor court. The protagonist, Will Patten, is a fictional character.

Wylie admits that she spares no details about life in the early history of the British Isles. She has thoroughly researched the time period and is a member of the Historical Writers Association. Readers have written reviews of both books and report that they specifically enjoyed the author’s character development and the exciting story lines.

When she is not writing, Wylie stays active playing golf and running. She is also an ardent reader and enjoys her Jack Russell terriers.
