Book Clubs–Time to Decide!!

This time of year, many book clubs decide which books they are going to read for the coming year. This is true if the club uses a ‘school’ calendar with the year ending with May and begining with September.

Usually, when someone suggests a book for the entire club, that person has read the book herself. Sometimes that is even a requirement. There are, however, too many books to read and not enough time. If your book club likes to read current books, this list may give you food for thought. Consider some of these titles and look for reviews on them. Have your book club be on the ‘leading edge’ of timely literature!!

The following books, along with comments, are featureed by my friend Rebecca Peace whose Instagram blog is followed by hundreads of readers:

Jennifer Ryan, The Kitchen Front, a cooking competition during the Blitz

Anne Tyler, French Braid, wonderful family story

Kim Fay, Love & Saffron, a tale of food and friends

Marie Benedict, The Only Woman in the Room, another untold story of a remarkable woman

Charmaine Wilkerson, Black Cake, a Jenna Bush Hager favorite

The next five books are ones that I have featured on my blog and that I think are worth consideration:

Parton and Patterson, Run Rose Run, mystery in the music industry

Tyla Miles, Ashley’s Sack, story of enslaved people and their heritage

Nita Prose, The Maid, a lovely little mystery

Anthony Doerr, Cloud Cukoo Land, long but worth it

Amor Towles, The Lincoln Highway, a Towles treat
