Celebrity picks
Sometimes it pays to have a second look at the celebrity book club picks. Here are three that caught my eye:

Culpability by Bruce Holsinger
Ron Charles, writing in the Washington Post, says, “If you want an engaging novel sure to spark great discussion about that thorny AI future, this is it,” Well, who doesn’t want to discuss AI? I know I do! I especially think this book will be fascinating because the mother of the family is an AI expert. After an auto accident involving the entire family, the investigating authorities tap into a complicated string of connections the accident may have to AI. But how? That is the crux of the story, and apparently Oprah found the suspense very appealilng. Maybe you will too!

A Happy Wife, by Kendall Shores and Meredith Lavender, is a July Read With Jenna book. The background is of note. When I heard the two authors interviewed, they spoke of how a conversation, while walking at Chastain Park one day, triggered their creative juices. Being from Atlanta, I have walked many a time at Chastain Park. While it is a lovely place to walk, I hardly think of it as inspirational. Apparently it was for these two women, one from Winter Park, Florida, and the other a television screenwriter. So you might see this book turn up as a ‘made for TV’ movie. Nevertheless, I think it will be a great read. You have heard the saying, “Ain’t nobody happy if Mama ain’t happy.” Well, find out what it takes to make this wife happy. For one thing, she has to clear her name in her husband’s murder!

The last book in this entry is Ashley Jordan’s Once Upon a Time in Dollywood. This time it’s Reese’s Book Club, and again, it’s the personal connection that caught my eye. Truthfully, I have never been to Dollywood, a theme park founded by Dolly Parton in PIgeon Forge, Tennessee. I know Chattanooga, of course, and much of the action takes place in the mountains there in a tiny cabin where our main character meets a handsome young man. How is the story connected to Dollywood, and what happens when ‘girl meets boy?’ This book may simply be a romance novel, but perhaps that’s exactly the kind of book you’re in the mood to read right now. Please let me know if you give it a try.
