Jimmy Fallon has a Bookclub??

Does anyone still stay up late enough to watch The Tonight Show? Do we remember who the host is now? While researching a new book by Sierra Greer entitled Annie Bot, I ran across this news flash (at least for me) that Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, has a book club and apparently has had one for some while. He is ‘reviving’ it in a March Madness format and wants your participation in choosing the winning book. About the book Annie Bot–It is getting a lot of publicity, some bad, some good. In an effort to decide whether or not to feature the book on my blog, I read a review in The New York Times. Lydia Kiesling, NYT reviewer, writes that, if one can get past what initially seems to only depict misogyny and toxic masculinity to read deeper into the novel, “The result is a gripping depiction of the ideologies that shape this novel’s world–and our own world too.” What’s the book about? It’s about Annie, a sex robot. Of course she, predictably, begins to think for herself and the rest is what the book is all about. You decide, but first, take a look at Jimmy Fallon.

  1. I loved Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, and often think about what the future holds for the evolution of artificial intelligence.
The Overstory by Richard Powers, is another example, just a different category—of how we don’t exist in a vacuum of humans; we are just touching on the complex life of trees and forests and their contribution to our world.
So I’m looking forward to reading Annie Bot to stretch the possibilities of the future and hopefully get a few laughs.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Frances.

    1. You are right, Becki. Instead of being afriad of AI, we could look at the positive aspects of the technology.
